Let's face it one of the best things about building an arcade cabinet
is putting it all together. Obtaining that quality arcade look is an
hobbyists dream. Next on the agenda...the COIN DOOR.
THE COIN DOOR
Want that perfect arcade look? Get a coin door and utilize it. If you
are a die hard arcade junky you must have went through that quarter
deposit routine a million times.
Here is the "official" coin door SlikStik uses with their prebuilt
cabinets. It is a simple over/under style from Happ Controls, model
(#40-0946-20) for the 2 player model (#40-0946-00) 4 player (4 player shown). The coin door has two separate sections (hence the name over/under). The first being the "over" which where the action takes place this includes the reject buttons, deposit slots, coin reject compartment, key entry. The second is the "under" which contains another key entry that allows you to pull out the cashbox from the front and collect your loot.
THE CASH BOX and ENCLOSURE
How are you going to hold all that money you ask? Well you could
simply use a plastic container or box to hold the coins...but what fun
is that? Here is the official holding area for you quarters! WARNING: these parts are for the coin door listed above, other coin doors need different parts.
The cashbox and enclosure are both sold separately and not included
with the over/under coin door. The cashbox (#42-0769-00) holds your money and the enclosure (#42-7328-00) is fitted around the cashbox so it can mount to your coin door. Both can be found on Happ Controls webpage. If you have a 2 player over/under coin door don't worry because they are both designed for 2/4 player coin slots. You will only use 2 of the 4 coin entry slots on top of the enclosure. The extra 5th slot is not used.
COIN REJECT ASSEMBLY
Hate those Amber display coin reject buttons? This section may only
be for the 4 player cabinets but 2 player cabinets may benefit as
well.
I purchased some coin door reject buttons from Happ Controls(#42-0517-XX)
they had a few colors that differ from the usual amber. I picked up
blue (#42-0517-02), red (#42-0517-00), green (#42-0517-03), and yellow (#42-0517-05). After they arrived I was pleased to notice the colors were exactly what I was looking for. Replacing the amber ones is a time consuming task. You basically have to remove the whole coin door to fit the new reject buttons in. This includes coin shoots, flap, outer holder, spring, reject contact, etc...Just remember which type screws go where.
